The Best Pick Up Lines

August 27, 2010 4:05 PM | Posted By: Jennifer Bradshaw

Sales and Marketing is a lot like dating—you start with phone calls and email, progress to the first date, and eventually you hope to get engaged. Along the way, you must encourage your date to take the next step.

Your call to action throughout your dating relationship must be:

1.     Need-based
Your prospect must first recognize they have a need before they are willing to complete a call to action.
2.     Special
Sweeten the deal with incentives like discounts, free gifts, or entry into a competition.
3.     Exclusive
Too many calls to action are confusing and overwhelming so stick to just one.
4.     Action-oriented
Tell prospects what you want them to do, such as Call, Buy, Register, Subscribe or Donate.
When your call to action is compelling, who can say no?

Here are 3 brief posts that will help you develop the perfect pick up line!

Low prices over value

Jeff Milchen, co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, says that during a recession, consumers tend to favor low prices over value, which can hurt smaller shops.

Helmuth says she started a local business alliance with some other business owners in her area to help remind consumers of the value of buying from shops like hers instead of heading online, where prices can be cheaper.

"That's been a huge thing in making customers aware that the recession isn't just hitting them and their job," she says.
