What Is #GivingTuesday?
Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday and Cyber Monday). It falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year and is a movement to encourage charitable giving in a time of massive spending. Yes we all shop till we drop on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, so slow down and take a moment to give to an organization right here at home on November 27.
How Will You #GiveBack?
Wake County charities are numerous and they all need our help. Consider donating to one of these 14 local non-profits this #GivingTuesday. By doing so you help a veteran smile again, a homeless man enjoy a hot meal, a cancer patient pay their mortgage and keep their home, a women coming out of crisis achieve success, or a child in poverty receive a top notch education. Don’t quite have the means to donate cash? Other ways to give tomorrow include donating art supplies to Craft Habit Raleigh. Craft Habit is collecting donations of art and craft supplies in good condition to give to Art Intimacy, a local non-profit bringing arts education and experiences to kids in Wake County. Furthermore, you can take canned goods and nonperishable food to the Food Bank of Eastern NC. Drop blankets, coats, hats and gloves off at a local church or rescue mission. Give the gift of life by donating blood through The Blood Connection. Donate your time to the SPCA of Wake County or soup kitchen. The list goes on and on. Whatever way you choose to give back, the point is to give freely and generously on #GivingTuesday.
