Caring Community Foundation
WHO WE ARE
The Caring Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization whose mission is to support cancer patients in need at triangle-area hospitals by providing emergency assistance with rent, utilities, medical care or other expenses that become difficult during treatment. We are a donor-supported community organization that receives no funding from any local, state or federal agency. We are a stand-alone grassroots charity dedicated to easing the burden of cancer… one patient at a time.
HOW THE CARING COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ALL BEGAN
In May 1999 Jill Wolford, a young Cary mother of two was diagnosed with breast cancer. The subsequent nine months were filled with chemotherapy, radiation, hospitalizations, and many experiences that challenged her and her family. Throughout that time, friends, neighbors, family, coworkers, and even strangers helped them through this very difficult period. Overwhelmed by the support they received, she and her husband Eric decided that the best way to show appreciation for those who had helped them would be to help other individuals challenged with cancer — in other words, pay it forward.
WHO WE HELP
The lives we touch are people we all know and people who never expected to face the struggles that a cancer diagnosis brings… People like a 39-year-old wife and mother of four small children being treated for breast cancer. She had been trying to work as much as possible as a housekeeper, and her husband had been working longer hours to make up for the lost income. Caring Community paid a month’s mortgage to relieve some of the financial stress… Or people like a 16-year-old female with a brain cancer diagnosis, who was receiving both chemo and radiation. Her illness had confined her to a wheelchair, so Caring Community paid for a carpenter to widen the doors in her home… And people like a 37-year-old single mother of three who was being treated for cervical cancer. She was not able to work due to chemotherapy treatment. She had no insurance. The Caring Community Foundation paid for one month of her medications.
Since our inception in 2001, the Caring Community Foundation has distributed more than $1.9 million to assist over 3,000 cancer patients in need.
TOGETHER WE CAN DO A LOT OF GOOD
We all want to help people in our own backyard. The Caring Community Foundation provides the platform to provide financial assistance for expenses like rent, utilities and other bills, so that cancer patients and their families can focus on getting better, because the power of a community can make a difference.
