Raleigh Magazine is the brainchild of Gina Stephens—no stranger to the publishing industry. Stephens launched Cary Living in 2005 followed by Midtown Magazine in 2007; she sold her share of the magazines in 2012, but an idea began to form.
As one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, Raleigh didn’t have a city magazine—a monthly publication devoted to both lifestyle issues and in-depth journalism. A city magazine like that needed a daily digital presence across all platforms, a sense of humor and a bit of an edge.
With a deep background in both journalism and sales as well as an eye for design, Stephens’ vision took shape. She recruited a creative director and an editor-in-chief to help her execute it, launching the first issue of Raleigh Magazine in September 2015.
Caitlin Harrison, creative director, worked in the New York City area in print media, publications and design before moving to Raleigh to be closer to family. She’s loving life as a transplant and keeping a list of what surprises her about Raleigh. Number one so far? How nice everyone is.
