The Green Monkey Turns Two Years Old And Adds Craft Beer Bar

When The Green Monkey opened their doors on Hillsborough Street in 2013, the owners had
big plans for their gift shop. The owners, Rusty Sutton and Drew Temple, knew they wanted to
create a unique retail space with a social center. “We wanted to have a unique gift shop that
inspired folks to shop and socialize with friends, “explained Rusty Sutton. Since opening they
have hosted small theatrical productions, art shows and more.
The shop features local gifts and art from some of the areas top artist and designers. They
feature many fashion tees from the area’s top designers such as Porch Fly Clothing, Oak City
Collective, Southern Ego Clothing and more. Their gifts include jewelry, wall art, bags, lamps,
glassware, pet accessories and more. It’s a shop of discovery each time you visit.
In addition to their large selection of local gifts and art, they have a craft beer selection.
According to the owners their goal is to carry some of the highest rated craft beer available.
Their selections are typically not found in your big box and grocery stores.
This Friday, October 16th, in celebration of their 2nd Year Anniversary, they are opening their
new craft beer bar. Their friend, Nate Pettibone, has constructed a bar using reclaimed wood
from an old tobacco barn from Zebulon, NC. They will be offering three selections of beers on
tap in addition to their 35 + selections in bottles and cans.
As part of this weekend’s 2nd Year Anniversary event, Art It Up NC event on Hillsborough St,
local artist, Louie Alphonse will present his collection of canvas art in the gallery at The Green
Monkey. Alphonse will be in the house to greet and talk with Monkey Fans on Friday and
Saturday evenings 6-10. His art will be on display throughout the weekend.
