Every Stitch Matters
Inside Galatea Boutique, every clothing, jewelry, and accessory piece has a purpose. Cheryl personally selects each item, choosing designs that are not only fun and unique but also help support small, local artists and women living in at-risk areas of their countries. Through her dedication to women-owned brands, Cheryl strives to uplift her community and empower the women whose creativity brings her store to life.
The Roots of Galatea
Originally from Virginia, Cheryl moved to Raleigh in the 1990s to open a new storefront for Grassroots Boutique. After a few years, she transformed that very space into her own boutique in 1996, the beloved Galatea Boutique we know today.
Grateful for both her lifelong and new customers, Cheryl credits them with helping her dream flourish. She loves connecting with her shoppers and her community, whether it’s inside her Oakwood store or out and about in her mobile boutique. Her charming van is packed with the same amazing selection you’ll find in-store, popping up at events across Raleigh throughout the year. Keep an eye out because you never know where Galatea will roll next.
So, who is Galatea anyway? The name comes from a mix of inspiring origins, from Eliza Doolittle, Audrey Hepburn’s character in Pygmalion and My Fair Lady, to the ivory statue brought to life by Aphrodite in Greek mythology. It is also the name of a cotton fabric once used for children’s sailor suits.
And then there is the “Galatea Effect,” which Cheryl proudly embraces, the idea that if you believe you can do something, you truly can. That spirit of confidence, creativity, and transformation is woven into everything Galatea Boutique stands for.
