A Story Rooted in Love, Family & Purpose
Like every small business, Sunny the Fun Fairy began with a story.
Sunny’s inspiration comes from two very special people: her father, a beloved professional clown known as Recycle the Clown, and her mother, whose love for flowers, gardens, and nature helped shape Sunny’s whimsical spirit.
After her father’s passing, Sunny felt called to continue his legacy of bringing smiles to others while blending it with her mother’s passion for beauty and growth. The result was a one-of-a-kind character dedicated to “sprinkling seeds of perpetual joy” throughout Raleigh.
Today, you’ll find Sunny flying through local festivals, leading sing-alongs, participating in parades, and creating unforgettable experiences wherever she goes.
What Does "Creating Magic" Mean?
For Sunny, magic isn’t found in fairy dust. It’s found in people.
Her mission is centered around helping children and families recognize the light that already exists within themselves. Whether she’s reading stories, leading crafts, or singing with children, Sunny strives to make every person feel seen, valued, and loved.
One of her favorite traditions is sharing her “magic mirror.” Before activities begin, Sunny tells children she has someone very special she’d like them to meet. When she turns the mirror around, they discover that the special person is themselves.
It’s a simple moment that often becomes the most magical one of all.
Sunny believes everyone deserves to fly regardless of age, ability, race, religion, or background and that message is woven into everything she does.
Moments That Make the Magic Real
After years of visiting festivals, birthday parties, schools, hospitals, and parks, it’s the unexpected moments that stay with Sunny the most.
She lights up when a child spots her from across a festival and runs over for an enthusiastic hug, or when families invite her to hold their little ones for the very first time.
Those genuine connections remind her why she started this journey in the first place.
“It’s those little moments,” she says, “that truly fuel my flight.”
Giving Back to the Community
Community service is at the heart of Sunny’s mission.
She proudly volunteers and partners with organizations including the North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance and the Autism Society of North Carolina, participating in events such as the Buddy Walk, Camp Shine, and fundraising parades throughout the year.
Sunny also invites families and community members to join her in local parades, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit organizations she supports.
For Sunny, giving back isn’t simply something she does, it’s part of who she is.
Lessons Learned as a Small Business Owner
Building a business has taught Sunny that growth often begins with saying “yes.”
From creating her own LLC and first website to becoming a published author and producing a Raleigh-themed coloring book, she’s embraced opportunities that once felt intimidating.
She also learned the importance of trusting others and allowing talented people to help bring her vision to life.

Say yes to new opportunities. Trust your gifts. Let others use theirs. Don’t let fear keep you from pursuing your purpose.
After all, as Sunny jokes, “I’m flying around as a fairy at 52 years old—and I’m having the time of my life.”
