The month of January brings inquiries from both women and men who are seeking a change in their appearance or brand. Author Sheila P. Coates, creator of “Be Your Own Brand,” shares my belief that the process of branding your style is “that subconscious message you send to your audience that can make or break the 30 seconds it takes for someone to form an opinion of you.” Coates is known for her considerable influence on the branding success of many A-list celebrities, and she says that personal branding builds confidence and strength and can be particularly powerful in the business world.
Our own personal branding begins with the colors, fabrics, textures, necklines and hemlines we incorporate into our wardrobe. These elements make a statement of who we are and who we want to be. I encourage you to take the time to look through your clothing, accessories, neckties, jackets and shoes, and ask yourself these questions:
- Do I have a brand or style?
- Is my style distinctive and easy to identify?
- Do my clothes help me send the right message?
- Have I become complacent in my dress over the years?
Finally, take a good, long look in the mirror and view your “brand.” If your brand is no longer helping you achieve your goals or help you make the right impression, I hope you’ll give me a call. Many of the world’s most successful people credit their personal brand with helping them make their journey that much sweeter. Get your year off to an invigorating start by giving your brand a little boost!
