Meet the Owners of Marian Cocktails and Kitchen: Carey and Leila Kidd
Nestled in the heart of Raleigh’s vibrant Glenwood South, Marian Cocktails & Kitchen is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and a fresh take on Southern hospitality. Behind this innovative plant-based concept are co-owners Carey and Leila Kidd, a husband-and-wife team with deep roots in Raleigh’s food and nightlife scene.
20+ Years of Passion and Experience
Carey Kidd brings over 20 years of experience in nightlife, restaurants, and bars to Marian. With a strong understanding of the Glenwood crowd and a passion for hospitality, Carey’s vision was always to create a space that goes beyond the typical nightlife; something warm, welcoming, and full of heart.
His partner in life and business, Leila, shares that same passion. Her journey started right here in Raleigh. With a background in chemistry and catering, her scientific knowledge has been instrumental in crafting the creative, nutrient-packed, and flavor-forward dishes that define Marian; and their sister restaurant, Element Gastropub.

From a Love of Food to a Mission
Leila’s love for food was sparked early on, cooking with family and exploring ingredients straight from the family garden. That passion deepened in 2012, when personal health struggles led her to explore the power of plant-based eating. What began as a lifestyle shift quickly turned into a culinary mission: to prove that vegan food can be comforting, creative, and deeply rooted in Southern hospitality.
That mission now drives both Marian and Element Gastropub. While Marian offers a homey, sit-down experience full of warm hospitality and chef-curated small and large plates, Element delivers a pub-style vibe that’s bold, lively, and equally committed to proving that plant-based food is anything but boring.

Why Glenwood South?
For Carey and Leila, Glenwood South wasn’t just a trendy destination; it was part of their story. “We’ve worked at several restaurants and bars on this street over the years,” says Carey. “We know the energy, the culture, and the people. It just made sense to bring Marian here.”
What Makes Marian Special?
At Marian, everything is plant-based, but the goal is much bigger than dietary labels. “We always say, ‘good food is good food,’” Leila explains. “We’ve taken traditional Southern dishes, added global influences, and made them our own — all while keeping it full of love and flavor.”
A great example? Their hot honey sandwich: made with cornflake-battered plant-based chicken, house-made vegan pimento cheese with Fresno chilies, and a sweet-spicy apple-based hot honey. It’s the kind of dish that surprises people, not just because it’s vegan, but because it’s really, really good.

We want Marian to be a space where people feel welcome at any time of day, It’s about good food, good times, and good energy.”
Leila Kidd, Co-Owner of Marion.
More Than Just a Meal
Inspired by Leila’s grandmothers, Marian was built to feel like home. Whether you’re grabbing a quick sandwich on a Tuesday or celebrating a birthday on Saturday night with caviar service, the experience is designed to be inclusive, elevated, and filled with joy.
“We want Marian to be a space where people feel welcome at any time of day,” Leila says. “It’s about good food, good times, and good energy.”
Marian Cocktails & Kitchen is redefining what it means to eat well in Raleigh with creativity, comfort, and a whole lot of love. Whether you’re a long-time vegan or just curious, Carey and Leila invite you to come as you are, grab a bite, and stay a while.
