Meet the Owners of Lip Print Beauty Bar, Latrice Reynolds Nickell Parks, and Renee McGregor. These college friends became business owners, catering to women and anyone who wants to feel confident about themselves through the power of makeup.
Friends to Co-Owners
These women didn’t always plan on owning a makeup business together. Each woman had been previously focusing on other ventures and careers, but during the pandemic, they discussed the possibility of working together in a business.
As a woman owned business, these three women knew that they wanted to create a business that would help other women feel confident in their skin.
Makeup is a powerful tool to not only help bring women confidence, but it is also fun and therapeutic. They also wanted to do something that wasn’t already offered. Thus, the idea for the Lip Print Beauty Bar came out.
Prior to opening their business, these women were diligent in learning what it takes to be business owners. They attended the Rolesville Launch Program, which served as a vessel to create a business plan and network with other business professionals.
They also attended classes at Wake Tech Community College, learning the ins and outs of the details, like financing a business, marketing your business, and the fundamentals of running a business.
Preparation and a Leap of Faith
After months of learning and preparing, along with a leap of faith, Lip Print Beauty Bar first opened in downtown Raleigh in October of 2022. Their unique experience paired with their shared passion for helping people feel confident gave the business the push it needed to succeed.
Lip Print Beauty Bar offers customers the opportunity to create their own personalized lip product. They started off with offering lip gloss and lipsticks, offering custom colors, opacities, and additions, glitter, scents, flavors, and lip plumper.
Eventually, the owners decided that they wanted to be a full customizations beauty business, and sought to add additional products such as body butter and body oil. They wanted to add other products that people would enjoy and use at home.
In the past three years, Lip Print Beauty bar has garnered great success. Since opening their small downtown location, they have since moved to a much larger studio space in Crabtree Valley Mall. They made the move only one year after opening their first location, in October 2023. This allowed them to be able to cater to bigger parties, as well as get their name out there to people in the mall who pass by them for the first time.
Their newest addition to their business is their brand new location in Charlotte, NC, which opened June 2024. Co-owner Latrice Reynolds resides in Charlotte, making it more accessible to open a space in a new location. The owners shared that having three owners helps tremendously with work-life balance, as well as having an amazing staff.
Growth Is Good
When it comes to starting a new business, there are many steps that need to be taken, and many things that need to be taken into consideration. When speaking with the owners, they said that the most important step was having faith, and knowing that the business will succeed. Taking an idea and implementing it into action is the pivotal step in putting a business together.
Their favorite aspect of owning a business, especially a makeup business, is that they are providing an experience for their customers, and helping them feel their best. Anyone who walks into one of their locations gets the freedom to be creative and make their own decisions. People walk in for many reasons, whether that be celebratory, connection with friends or family, or being a part of their own makeup routine. The most rewarding part of owning Lip Print Beauty Bar is “engaging with diverse people from all walks of life and seeing smiles on peoples faces.”
The biggest piece of advice that Latrice, Nickell, and Renee have for other business owners is “follow your heart and don’t give up.
Starting a business requires patience, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles, but from their experience, there are always people who are willing and want to help you.
