COMMITTEES
House Appropriations Subcommittee Meetings
The House Appropriations Subcommittees met Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Fiscal Research staff gave members and the public an overview on the differences between the House and Senate passed budgets.
HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE
The Committee met on Monday, June 29, to discuss a temporary funding plan to keep the government funded while the House and Senate continue work on the budget. The continuing resolution gives the General Assembly until August 14 to agree on a new spending plan and maintains current spending levels during the interim. The continuing resolution also includes increased funding for starting teacher salaries, bringing them up to $35,000. The resolution was approved by House and Senate members.
HOUSE FINANCE COMMITTEE
The House Finance Committee met on Tuesday, June 30. The Committee began by approving a local bill – H 389, Roanoke Island Fire District Changes, which would clarify the process by which Dare County pays fire protection tax funds for the Roanoke Island Fire District. The Committee then continued its discussion of the tax and finance portions of the Senate version of H 97, 2015 Appropriations Act.
SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Committee met on Tuesday, June 30, and approved H 765, Regulatory Reform Act of 2015. The bill would make multiple changes to State laws related to business regulation, State and local government regulation, and environmental regulation.
SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE
The Senate Commerce Committee met on Tuesday, June 30, and approved two bills. H 201, Zoning Changes/Citizen Input, seeks to amend the process by which city councils receive citizen input on zoning ordinance amendments. H 168, Exempt Builders’ Inventory, seeks to exempt from property tax the increase in value of residential real property held for sale by a builder to the extent the increase is attributable to subdivision or improvements by the builder.
