ComMotion Goes International With Successful Latin America Trip

North Carolina-based non-profit ComMotion – Community In Motion has recently completed a successful Latin American trip, which saw its team collaborate with local organizations, artists, and educators. Over the three weeks, they supported hundreds of individuals, delivering a variety of educational workshops and presentations to aid with health and happiness.

The unforgettable trip saw the ComMotion team visit three countries throughout the 23 days, delivering its unique movement programs that stimulate the mind, body, and soul. Starting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, they volunteered with the Arte en Salud program at Hospital Italiano, which brings music and art directly to patients within the Intensive Care and Oncology units. This multi-sensory program aligns closely with ComMotion’s own approach, helping to improve mental and physical well-being.

The second stage of the trip saw them travel to Santiago, Chile. Here, the team met with U.S. Embassy staff to discuss how ComMotion can expand its reach further and connect with both existing programs and local organizations. While in the city, they also led a Wellness and Movement Workshop at the Hogar de Cristo residential facility, which works closely with those who are homeless or struggling with addiction.

Finally, the trip ended at La Paz, Bolivia, where ComMotion collaborated with Partners of Americas, a program of the US Department of State. While here, they worked with local schools and youth organizations to utilize ComMotion’s methodology for incorporating movement and music into English language learning. They conducted multiple Wellness & Movement workshops for seniors in community and hospital programs. They also conducted training sessions at Universidad Mayor de San Andres (UMSA), showcasing to its students how the arts can benefit health and recovery. They also met with the U.S. Embassy team to discuss how they can expand the reach and impact of their programs. This final part of the trip was made possible thanks to an Education and Culture Professional Travel Grant from the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Partners of the Americas in partnership with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
