Locals Seafood to Open Flagship Retail Market in East Raleigh
The Triangle’s premier seafood distributor has purchased a building off New Bern Avenue.
Locals Seafood has purchased a building in east Raleigh to establish a new headquarters.
The building will house the company’s flagship retail market and offices. “This move will bring local seafood to customers in northeast Raleigh and Knightdale. We’re excited to have a permanent home for our company in Raleigh,” says Lin Peterson, co-founder.
The retail market will be the highlight of the location, featuring a large selection of fresh seafood, value-added goods, kitchen tools, and more. Eventually, Locals will open a deli-style market counter with a dry-aged fish section, raw bar, and fry shack that will allow customers to experience NC seafood in a variety of ways.
“Our mission is to expand access to local seafood,” says Ryan Speckman, co-founder. “We want to continue educating our guests on topics such as seafood seasonality, utilization, and sustainability. This location gives us a unique opportunity to bring local seafood to an area of Raleigh that has very little access.”
Locals expects to open the new retail market later this fall. The move will not impact Locals’ existing farmers market locations or its restaurant at Durham Food Hall. Locals will close its restaurant at Transfer Company Food Hall at the end of July. “We are so proud of what our team has accomplished at Transfer and the opportunities it provided. We are focused on the future and looking forward to growing our business in other directions,” says Peterson.
The last day of service at Transfer Company will be Saturday, July 30. The restaurant will run specials and feature fan favorites throughout the month.
Locals will continue to offer private catering and host pop-up oyster roasts, dinners, and raw bars around the Triangle. Locals is planning to announce an opening date for the new location in early fall. Follow @localsseafood on social media for more details.
