Old World vs. New World Wines: Can you taste the difference?
Old World wines are from Europe — New World wines are basically from everywhere else (the U.S., South America, Australia). We’ll blind-taste-test four European grape varieties against their New World counterparts. What’s the difference in flavor, structure, and why? Join us for a fun evening of tasting, talking and getting the inside scoop on different grape varietals and the regions that produce them.
About the instructor: English-born Hannah Barton Gaunce grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Western Carolina with her sights set on teaching. But the complexities of wine fascinated her, and after spending two-and-a-half years at the Angus Barn, she passed the first- and second-level exams for the Court of Master Sommeliers. Now, a Certified Sommelier, her students are wine lovers. Gaunce brings her experience to Pedaler Wine & Beer, sharing the intricacies of region, vineyard and taste in a $220 billion industry.
