Rhône Wine
Although the southern French wine region is ripe with history, dating back to 600 BC, it’s traditionally overlooked in favor of the Burgundy and Bordeaux regions. But these wines are achieving critical acclaim and capturing major public interest.
Join us to taste these hidden treasures, including the famously peppery Syrah from the Northern Rhône along with the fruity and approachable Cotes-du-Rhône. How do those compare with the earthy and rich Chateauneuf du Pape from the Southern Rhône Valley and the beautiful aromatic whites? This class will cover the history, depth and context of the region and a lively discussion on flavor profiles. Cheese and meat plates provided.
About the instructor: English-born Hannah Barton Gaunce grew up in Raleigh and graduated from Western Carolina with her sights set on teaching. But the complexities of wine fascinated her, and after spending two-and-a-half years at the Angus Barn, she passed the first- and second-level exams for the Court of Master Sommeliers. Now, a Certified Sommelier, her students are wine lovers. Gaunce brings her experience to Pedaler Wine & Beer, sharing the intricacies of region, vineyard and taste in a $220 billion industry.
